Ed claims that he first learned to play an instrument as a child.  He started with rubber bands on a cigar box, and learned songs from the band of hillbilly albinos who lived on Haycock Mountain, behind the house where he grew up.  The first song he performed live was "Long Way to the Top Rock (if you want to Roll)" by AD/CD, at the first Haycock Hillbilly Jam in 1981.  He then started listening to Waylon Jennings, Iron Maiden, Snoop Dogg, and eventually, the Grateful Dead, where he found his musical comfort-sphere.  He attended Rocky Mountain High (Colorado) and graduated from Humboldt County Hippie University.  

However, much of the above has been widely disputed and disproved.  A more accurate version involves his spending most of his life in Southeastern Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and Lehigh Valley area.  He began performing around the area in 2011, doing solo performances, and working with the Top Rock Ramblers in 2015.
